Sampling is more than just “making a test shirt.” It’s a key part of the production process that helps your brand reduce mistakes, confirm details, and ensure consistency — before you commit to mass production.
At HEM APPAREL, we guide clients through three major types of samples, each serving a different purpose.
👕 1. Fit Sample (Prototype Sample)
This is the first version of your product — made from available materials or close alternatives.
-
Focus: fit, silhouette, proportions
-
Often made with similar fabric, not final fabric
-
Purpose: adjust measurements, refine shape
✅ Ideal for brands developing new styles or customizing blanks
🧪 2. Pre-Production Sample (PP Sample)
Made after final adjustments are confirmed — using approved fabric, trims, print/embroidery, and construction.
-
This sample is your production reference
-
What you approve here is what the factory will replicate in bulk
-
Any changes must be communicated clearly before PP sample is signed off
✅ Required for most OEM/private label orders
📦 3. Bulk Sample (TOP – Top of Production)
This is pulled from actual bulk production, typically the first few units off the line.
-
Used to double-check quality, labeling, packaging
-
Ensures what’s being produced matches what was approved
-
Usually retained by brand or factory as final benchmark
✅ Especially useful for international QC teams or remote buyers
🧠 HEM APPAREL’s Tip:
Some brands try to skip sampling to save time or cost — but end up wasting more fixing bulk mistakes. Sampling is not just a cost — it’s a control tool.
We offer free fit samples for large-volume orders and provide guidance throughout each stage.
